A couple from Chirton Grange, North Tyneside, went through weight loss surgery together in a bid to change their lives and improve their lifestyle, the Chronicle Live reported.
Jacqueline and Gary Watson were both morbidly obese and between them they weighed nearly 40 stone. They decided to take drastic measures when they were told that they were at risk of falling seriously ill or even die because of their obesity. Within 24 hours of each other, the husband and wife underwent gastric bypass surgery at a hospital with the Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust several weeks ago.
Since then, their life has been completely different and they both feel happy with the decision to have the surgery. They have collectively shed over nine stones and their combined weight currently stands at 29st 7lbs. It is expected that, thanks to the gastric bypass surgery and the lifestyle changes they have made, they will continue to lose weight.
Jacqueline told the Chronicle Live that the couple gained a large amount of weight together over a few years without really realising the fact. Obesity had a serious impact on their lives, not just physically but emotionally too, as Jacqueline suffered from depression and Gary developed type 2 diabetes and inflammatory arthritis.
As a result of the gastric bypass, the couple felt like they were having “a second honeymoon period” and are much happier and more active than they used to be in a long time, the Chronicle Live informed.
